New Day, New Project!
I've been having such a fun time adjusting this site to my own liking and making it really feel "my own". That being said, I've hit a bit of a roadblock with the amount of work involved in fixing the broken covers on My Bookshelf. Basically, I need to go through almost all the books and confirm the ISBN numbers are correct so that OpenLibrary API is able to pull the correct covers. Considering I need to manually go through and find each books correct ISBN, input each ISBN into the dataset, and refresh to see if the cover is available... and considering I have easily over 100 books on the various shelves... Yeah, this is a lot of work, and I'm honestly just not up to it right now. So - My Bookshelf is going to be an ongoing project that I come back to now and then. Hopefully I don't read and finish too many books before I come back to it!
In the meantime, I'm working on another project that I'll be coding entirely by-hand. I'm sure I mentioned somewhere, but despite my previous background in CSS and HTML I have been using some AI in order to create a good chunk of what you see here. Mainly SyberShooter, page layouts, fancy-pants styling that's quite honestly above my skillset, and all the Sybernetic-Specific images you see. I modified it, fixed it, and adjusted it to my own liking significantly - but I still can't claim that everything you see here is hand-coded. The project I'm going to be working on is entirely going to be hand-coded though, with zero use of AI. If that's your jam - stay tuned! It'll be coming eventually. The holdup is the fact that I don't want to use AI at all and that includes images. Since I'm a shitty artist on the best of days with no access to a tablet or drawing pad to create my own custom digital art, this means I'll be scowering neocities sites to see what I can snatch here and there to work with (of course, I'll always provide credit back to original artists!)
I don't want to mention too much about my project right now until I have something tangible I can show you all that I'm happy with to at least some degree. I want it to be a surprise! The good thing is that using AI to help build this site has refreshed my memory a lot about how to do what I want by myself, by hand. It's been like 5 years since I've taken any web development classes so I'm a little rusty lol. Working on this project will definitely help get the gears turning!
